Hey there, I’m Rahul Patil. But everyone calls me American Bhau (and yes, there’s a story behind that name 😄).
I was born in a small village near Dhule, Maharashtra. Farming roots. My dad broke the mold, studied hard, built a banking career, and gave us a stable life. The dream he had for me was the natural next step. BITS Pilani for computers. A one-way ticket to America. A comfortable tech career at Atlassian. Three generations from farm, to bank, to USA.
By every measure, I had made it.
But something was off.
I was good at building code. What I really wanted was to build connections. I kept seeing brilliant, hardworking Marathi people around me who had no idea how to grow a business or tell their story. Not because they weren’t capable. Because nobody ever taught us.
There’s an old belief in our community: “मराठी माणूस धंदा नाय करू शकत.” Marathis are not cut out for business. We got steered toward safe careers. Ambition was kept quiet. That belief has held our people back for generations.
Around this time, I found Naval Ravikant. He said: find the thing only you can do, built from your unique combination of obsessions and experiences. Bet on yourself before anyone else does. Creativity and purpose are not luxuries. They are the strategy.
That hit different when you’re a Marathi kid from a Dhule village sitting in America, realizing the “safe” life you built was just someone else’s definition of a good one.
In 2023, I quit my job and started American Bhau.
The first year was tough. Almost no money coming in. What kept us going was the mission. I also started “Navalai,” a reels and shorts series where I break down Naval’s principles in simple, conversational Marathi. No jargon. Just the ideas, in the language my people actually think in. The response told me something important: the ideas were never the barrier. The language was.
Today, American Bhau is proof. Proof that a Marathi kid, three generations from the farm, can leave a corporate job, bet on himself, and build something real.
I want every Marathi person watching to think — “If Bhau can do it, so can I.”
That’s the whole point.
Hey! I’m Pallavi Chivte-Patil, the creative brain behind all the magic you see here (and Rahul’s better half, but don’t tell him I said that 😉).
Plot twist: When Covid 2020 turned everything upside down, I decided to add UI/UX certification to my arsenal. While others were perfecting sourdough starters, I was perfecting user experiences.
Now I’m the Creative Director and co-owner of American Bhau, which basically means I’m the one making sure our content doesn’t look like it was made in 2005. From the initial “what if we did this crazy idea?” to the final “yes, this is actually going live,” I make sure everything we create hits the right notes with our audience. I manage the entire editing workflow while working with our team below; every cut and frame has to go through my approval before you see it on the American Bhau digital platform.
My superpower: Turning Rahul’s wild ideas into content that people actually want to watch. Also, I have an unhealthy obsession with making sure our designs are on trend (you’re welcome).
We are always looking for Video Editors, Designers, and Script Writers. If you’ve got the skills and the drive to create top content, send your resume and details to: 📩 rahul@americanbhau.com
