During one of our weekly Motivational Mondays calls in the month of February our private community decided to do the super popular 30 Days challenge, to build consistency around showing up on social media. We called it #bhauchallenge, cheeky i know 😉
We intentionally decided to keep it free because we truly wanted a lot of folks to benefit from it. Our first 2 batches, one in April, another in July, were a success by all measures, except one. Which one you ask? Well, read on 😉
We had in total 100 participants across both batches, joining us from the US, Germany, Canada and of course India, who posted over 2200 times, with total views above 3M, gaining over 6000 new followers, amazing, I know 🙂
But here is one thing which we saw consistently across both batches, on average around 13 folks from each batch dropped off, so almost 1 in 4 just vanishing or not participating.
This was clearly a problem. We had put in a lot of effort and time to make the experience around #bhauchallenge super awesome. We created a WhatsApp group for the participants where they could ask questions, get feedback etc. A lot of work was done by Pallavi (our co-owner) and Piyush (our community lead) to keep this group engaging and full of value. We also hosted a live weekly video call where participants asked questions and got clarifications around various aspects of content creation. Providing this much value only for unserious folks to drop out was a bummer not just for us but for other participants too.
Right now, we are in the planning phase of 3rd edition of #bhauchallenge, which starts on Oct 1 and taking care of that drop rate was at the forefront of our discussions.
Which is why, to make everyone’s experience better, and to ensure only serious folks sign up for October’s #bhauchallenge, we are moving away from the free model.
Participants will have to pay a small amount to participate in #bhauchallenge going forward. Our private ‘American Bhau Club’ members still get to participate for free, because they are special 😉
